The mysterious death of David Rossi, the head of communications for Italy's oldest bank, Monte dei Paschi di Siena, was initially ruled a suicide. His death came in March 2013 at a time when the bank was teetering on the brink of collapse over numerous scandals and the loss of hundreds of millions of euros through risky investments and complex derivative trades.

William S. Broeksmit committed suicide by hanging on Jan. 26, 2014. He was found dead at his London home, near documents related to The Deutsche Bank Trust Company of America, the board he served on at the time of his death. William's stepson, Val Broeksmit, discovered his stepfather's body and has called into question his stepfather's suicide.

Following the Great Recession of 2008, and the world economy crashing, came a spate of regulation and scrutiny brought by federal regulators and the government on US and global financial institutions. From 2013 to 2014, more than 40 financial professionals committed suicide in the US, London and Hong Kong.
